Unhurried skiing to and fro, the dazzling summit cross in your sights and then perhaps the greatest reward: a view over the entire snowy winter landscape of South Tyrol. Breathe in the clear, tangy air, be at one with nature and experience the uniquely beautiful South Tyrolean scenery, far away from every day life.
That is the allure of ski touring. This sport is the oldest form of skiing - long before the first lifts and cable cars appeared in the mountains, people climbed the mountains here in South Tyrol on skis.
This alternative winter sport means plenty of physical exertion on the uphill climb, followed by yet more exercise on the descent, when completely different muscle groups are brought into play. Ski touring provides a strenuous workout because of the high demands on your stamina over several hours. In addition, in spite of the exertion, there is a pronounced effect of mental relaxation. The long, repetitive climb in almost complete silence allows you to “switch off”; it has a kind of meditative effect that is replaced by a feeling of delight when you reach your destination.
