Upper Vinschgau Valley Holiday Region

fologo.jpg

General / Location:

The Upper Vinschgau Valley holiday region is situated in a unique high mountain valley whose landscape is characterised by medieval castles, small romantic villages and flawless natural surroundings. The Upper Vinschgau Valley’s idyllic villages and hamlets nestle in the green valley bottom, surrounded by the imposing Ortler Mountains.

fLively traditions and a rural culture have grown up here over generations. The inhabitants of these historic villages appreciate their unique natural monuments and have always stood firm against the elements, epidemics, wars and any over the top efforts towards modernisation. Pretty houses, medieval town walls, picturesque alleyways and mighty fortified towers inspire both visitors and art lovers alike. Things are all still in their rightful place here and one can hold on tightly to an unspoilt, illusion-free world. Famous rulers, pious pilgrims and monks, traders and craftsmen have all left their mark on these villages and, indeed, the entire valley. The cultural and natural landscapes come together to form a fascinating unit. Every season in the Upper Vinschgau Valley has its own special charm, and the purity of the natural surroundings is a source of inspiration for everyone. Take romantic walks along the Waale, the irrigation channels that are ancient arteries bringing crucial water to the fields - a special and unique feature of our region – which, in summer, form the centrepiece of perhaps the most beautiful walks and mountain tracks, as well as three matchlessly beautiful Alpine Fitness parks.

The visitor can experience the celebrated “Vinschger Gastfreundschaft” (Vinschgau Valley hospitality) in hotels, guesthouses, private rooms and comfortable taverns. And you won’t forget our delicious local speciality dishes in a hurry.

Terrific pistes, wonderful cross-country ski runs, skiing fun for the whole family – a multitude of sporting activities... including the Nordic walking routes in Schlinig.
